Meet the Pastor & First Lady

Meet our newly appointed Pastor and First Lady! The mantle has fallen on these two humble servants to lead New Christ Temple to victory through Jesus Christ! It is the prayer of our saints that God will use these two in a mighty way!

Pastor Lorris Upshaw Jr.

Pastor Lorris Upshaw Jr. is the second of eight children born to the late Overseer Lorris Upshaw Sr. and Mother Nellie Upshaw.  Brought up through the teachings of his parents, much was instilled in Pastor Upshaw.  The Lord had much work for him to do in the ministry. Consequently, our pastor, with a heart of flesh received Christ in the summer of 1980 and was called to the ministry the following year, in 1981.  After four years, he was ordained as an Elder by Bishop P. A. Brooks of the Northeast Michigan Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction in August of 1985.

A native of Detroit, MI, Pastor Lorris Upshaw Jr. was educated in the Detroit school system where he obtained his grade school education and eventually obtained his GED.  Following his acceptance of Christ as his Lord and Savior, he continued his education through matriculation at Macomb College, William Tyndale Bible College and Charles Harrison Mason Bible College.  Additionally, through his academic prowess and extensive knowledge of the Word of God, Pastor Upshaw became a professor at Power of the Word Bible Institute and founded the New Christ Temple Bible Institute in 2005.

Pastor Lorris Upshaw Jr. is a father of five children, and in recent years, he has gained two more, creating a blended family, by way of his union to our First Lady, Sis. Stephanie Upshaw.  He joined himself to her in holy matrimony January 21st in the year 2010.

After the demise of Overseer Lorris Upshaw Sr., the Lord saw fit to elevate Elder Lorris Upshaw Jr. to the office of Pastor of New Christ Temple COGIC on August 10, 2012 by Bishop Isaac King Jr. and was installed on October 14th of that same year. After assuming his role, the ministry became New Christ Temple, “The Ministry of Another Chance”.

A very capable, knowledgeable, and spiritual man indeed, Pastor Lorris Upshaw Jr. is leading New Christ Temple, with God in the forefront, to a deeper level in Christ. He is a humble servant with a heart for the people and compassion for the lost.

On July 30, 2017 Pastor Lorris Upshaw Jr. was appointed District Superintendent of the Impact District in Southwest Michigan Agape Jurisdiction by Bishop Isaac King Jr.

First Lady Stephanie Upshaw

First Lady Stephanie Andrews-Upshaw was born to Silvester and Rosa Andrews in Detroit, Michigan.  She received the call to salvation in 1993, and has since grown into a woman of grace and truth.  Through her dedication to ministry, she exemplifies the characteristics of a Virtuous Woman, as described in Proverbs 31.

A native of the East Side of Detroit, Stephanie Upshaw attended and obtained her diploma from East Catholic High School.  From there, she began working for General Motors.  During her term of employment, she enrolled in Macomb Community College and received an Associate's Degree in Business Administration and subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Spring Arbor University in Family Life Education.

In 2010, Stephanie Upshaw (then Andrews) joined Elder Lorris Upshaw Jr. in holy matrimony, combining families to comprise seven children from her former two.  This union also includes ten grandchildren, with another on the way.

Along with Pastor Upshaw, First Lady Stephanie Upshaw is working diligently as a servant of Christ in the ministry. Through her dedication to the church, she is helping to make the pastor's vision a reality. New Christ Temple is indeed "The Ministry of Another Chance."
